Alaska Cannabis Laws

Medical & Recreational Marijuana

Companies must be licensed by the state, as well as the local agencies (city and county) to start any medical or recreational marijuana businesses. Cities and counties can choose whether to license none or some business types (dispensary, cultivation, manufacturing, processing, transportation, etc.) Exporting marijuana to other states is currently illegal under state and federal laws.

On the state side, the Alcohol & Marijuana Control Office (a division of the Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development) is responsible for licensing and regulating all marijuana establishments.

See the Resources section below for additional info.

CBD & Hemp

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources is responsible for overseeing and issuing all hemp and CBD business licenses and activities. However, the county and city where the business will be located may also determine whether you can open and operate a business within their borders or not.
