Newfoundland and Labrador Cannabis Laws

Medical & Recreational Marijuana

Medical and recreational marijuana businesses are both legal in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Health Canada oversees the licensing of cannabis cultivation, processing, and sale for medical purposes, while the Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation (NLC) is responsible with the sale of recreational cannabis by regulating private retail stores, distribution, and the operation of online cannabis stores.

See the Resources section below for additional info.

CBD & Hemp

Health Canada also oversees hemp cultivation and processing of CBD.

Sales to consumers of CBD and products containing CBD such as cannabis oil depends on the rules and regulations of each province or territory.

In Newfoundland and Labrador, CBD-products can only be sold by an NLC-licensed cannabis retailer or federally-licensed medical marijuana retailer.
