New Marijuana Legalization Documentary To Screen In Seattle

Posted on August 10, 2012 by News Admin

Seattle Hempfest and two Seattle churches will host sneak previews of the new cannabis documentary Legalize It, a "socially conscious" film on Proposition 19, the 2010 campaign to legalize marijuana in California.

Scenes from the film will be shown at Seattle Hempfest on Saturday, August 18 in the afternoon in the Hemposium, followed by a panel discussion with the filmmakers and film participants. Participants include Presidential candidate Governor Gary Johnson, his running mate Judge Jim Gray, Dan Rush (director, National Medical Cannabis & Hemp Division at UFCW) and I-502 "legalization" advocate and celebrity trophy wife Jodie Emery.

Pastor Carl Livingston ("Shoestrings and Bootstraps") will present film excerpts at Kingdom Christian Center with the filmmakers in attendance, Sunday, August 19, at 11 a.m.

The entire film will screen at Woodinville Unitarian Universalist Church Sunday, August 19, at 6 p.m., followed by a panel discussion with the filmmakers, the film's subjects (including Dan Rush and Amanda Rain), and Betty Taylor, former St. Louis Missouri, chief of police.

Representatives from New Approach Washington will be there to answer questions about Initiative 502, a Washington state initiative that legalizes and regulates marijuana for adults and is on the November 2012 general election ballot.

That tells me that this "film screening" is actually a gambit to get folks in the room so they can be propagandized about I-502, an execrable piece of legislation which would criminalize driving by most medical marijuana patients, wouldn't allow home cultivation, and leaves possession of more than 40 grams a felony.

About Legalize It

In collaboration with Willie Nelson's Luck Films, award-winning filmmaking duo director Dan Katzir and producer Ravit Markus (Yiddish Theater: A Love Story, Out for Love...Be Back Shortly), with producer Lati Grobman (Righteous Kill, Run for the Money), captured the Prop 19 marijuana campaign in the new documentary

"The Prop 19 campaign is an inspiring journey demonstrating that even those without wealth and political connection can bend the arc toward greater social justice and use passion to transform a fringe California social issue into a mainstream political topic," a press release for the film suggests.

"Legalize It follows Prop 19 campaign leaders over eight months as they struggle to get California voters to approve legislation regulating cannabis like alcohol - sold and taxed at licensed stores to adults over 21," the release reads.
